Pastor Mike Barrera came to United Baptist Church back in 1997.  He is a native of Laredo and he graduated from Nixon High School in 1966.  He is also a graduate from Southwestern Baptist Theological seminary where he received his Master’s degree.  His undergraduate work was in theology and his Master’s is in Religious Education.  He was also named one of Laredo’s 100 greatest athletes in the last 100 years. 

He has many civic and denominational responsibilities and is presently the chairman for the Laredo Salvation Army’s advisory board.  He also served many years on the board of the Laredo Boys and Girls Club of Laredo.  He is presently the resolutions committee chairman for the Baptist General Convention of Texas and was also the Chairman for the Christian Life Commission of the BGCT.  He has served as part of the executive board for BGCT in the past and was the 1st treasurer for the newly formed Laredo Baptist Association. 

He is married to Polly (RN) for the last 35 years and they have three grown children.

Pastor Tom Grundy came to Laredo in Nov of 2006 where he served as associate pastor of worship and youth at a sister church. He is a native of Corpus Christi where he graduated from WB Ray High school in 1984. In 2005 he graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Theology. He plans on returning to work on his Masters Degree. 

Over the past 10 yrs Tom has served in several churches accross Texas as a Youth and Worship Pastor where he has been involved with other youth pastors accross the denominational board to work on reaching their city with the gospel of Jesus Christ. He has also worked with the BGCT back in 2000 during their annual meeting to put on a city wide youth rally. 

He has been married to June for 18 yrs and they have five children, Hannah, Rachel, Trey , Sarah and Nick.
