Pastor Mike Barrera came to United Baptist Church back in 1997.  He is a native of Laredo and he graduated from Nixon High School in 1966.  He is also a graduate from Southwestern Baptist Theological seminary where he received his Master’s degree.  His undergraduate work was in theology and his Master’s is in Religious Education.  He was also named one of Laredo’s 100 greatest athletes in the last 100 years. 

He has many civic and denominational responsibilities and is presently the chairman for the Laredo Salvation Army’s advisory board.  He also served many years on the board of the Laredo Boys and Girls Club of Laredo.  He is presently the resolutions committee chairman for the Baptist General Convention of Texas and was also the Chairman for the Christian Life Commission of the BGCT.  He has served as part of the executive board for BGCT in the past and was the 1st treasurer for the newly formed Laredo Baptist Association. 

He is married to Polly (RN) for the last 35 years and they have three grown children.

United Baptist Church has Men´s Prayer services at 7:00 am, Spanish worship at 9:00 am, Joint Sunday School at 10:10 am on Sundays at 8:30am, English Worship Service at 11:00am, Mime practice at 5:00 pm, Puppets at 5:00 pm, Youth group at 6:00 pm and Evenning Worship at 6:00 pm.

"It is finished!" Hopefully all Christians realize the victory in the statement of Jesus on the cross. Now that Jesus paid it all, we simply have to obey our Lord as we tackle the "Unfinished Task". We must be the instruments of love to take the Gospel to all nations and people before the Lord returns for His Bride, the Church!

United Baptist Church, a part of the "Unfinished Task", was started in Laredo 8 years ago in 1992. Our humble start was a mission vision of lay people who felt it was God's timing to start a new Baptist Church in north Laredo. We were a very small group who had a vision for north Laredo and the world.

We have had two pastors and many supply preachers. The first pastor of our church was Mike McGuire. Our present pastor, who came to us in 1997 is Mike Barrera, a native Laredoan. We began in a house (Drake family), moved to a strip shopping center, and now have a "paid in full" building at 811 International Boulevard.

We are now 115 members and many more permanent visitors. We have averaged 171 people per Sunday this last month. We are presently in the middle of "United we build" program and hope to have our new building within one year. We are fast becoming a "church for all nations" and presently minister in three languages... Spanish, English and Mandarin.
